Transportation Secretary Tours Site of I-95 Bridge Collapse

Pledges federal funding to rebuild the key section of the Philadelphia highway.

Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg visited the wrecked I-95 bridge in Philadelphia this week, assessing the damage with Pennsylvania officials. A portion of the major highway collapsed on Sunday after a truck hauling gasoline ignited and exploded, causing a number of fatalities and forcing the closure of the transportation corridor. An estimated 160,000 vehicles use this section of I-95 per day, and full restoration of this bridge could take months.

“Every resource that is needed will be made available,” Secretary Buttigieg assured residents and officials. He will continue to meet with Philadelphia’s mayor and other state and local officials “to rebuild I-95 safely and efficiently, while limiting interim impacts to commuters and our supply chains,” the Department of Transportation stated.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Buttigieg as he seeks to facilitate the rebuilding of the Philadelphia bridge.
  • For wisdom for U.S. transportation officials as they assess the wreckage and craft a plan to repair it.
  • For the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives due to the tanker explosion.
